Upon entering into Ka-Prow Bistro, you may have noticed something unique on the wall. No, not the variety of amazing off-the-menu items on the specials board (the Spicy Crunchy Roll is to die for by the way!), but a photograph of the current King of Thailand. Venture a little further into the restaurant and you will find more photos of this King and other past Monarchs.

Why Are Photos of Kings Common at Thai Businesses or Residences?

According to Chef Opart, to hang a picture of the King is a long standing tradition of Thai people to display their affection and loyalty towards the leaders that they feel are most honorable. By paying homage to the King of Thailand, one is in turn, honoring what’s great about the Thai culture.

So, Who Is This Beloved King, and Why Is He So Admired?

King Bhumibol Adulyadej was born in December of 1927 and is currently the longest reigning Monarch in the world. Although adored for many reasons, he is most memorable because of his contributions to helping improve the lives of his people in many ways, including facilitating Thailand’s transition to democracy, investments in agriculture to improve their standard of living and economical vitality in rural areas, public health and much more.

His Majesty is also known for being very multi-dimensional in character. His contribution to the arts is quite well known around the world. The King can often be seen with a camera in hand enjoying the art of photography, but more than anything, it’s Jazz where he is a composer and musician that is most known world wide.
